The Microscopy Society of Ireland is an all-island society which aims to foster an interest in the science and practice of microscopy, create a forum for academic and technical dialogue in matters relating to microscopy and promote training and education facilities for its members.
MSI is an affiliated member of the European Microscopy Society and the International Federation of Societies for Microscopy.
The MSI Annual Symposium is usually held in one of the academic institutions on the island of Ireland, moving from year to year. Microscopy is a versatile interdisciplinary technique and our Annual Symposium is a great opportunity for both established researchers and students to hear presentations on state of the art techniques and new developments in microscopy by leading experts. The MSI Symposium has always been an excellent forum for students to present their research and meet others from different disciplines.
Each year we also hold the Annual Rory Comerford Memorial Lecture, dedicated to the memory of one of the MSI founding members.
MSI also sponsors training events and workshops in microscopy. Please see our Membership section for more details.
MSI operates a student travel bursary that supports MSI student members to attend microscopy workshops or other international training events and a conference travel award that supports MSI members to attend national and international conferences.
I invite you to join our society, attend our symposia and events and contribute to the development of microscopy on the island of Ireland.
Prof. Ursel Bangert, MSI President.
